We woke early, refreshed and ready to vist my sister and to see what she had been kvelling about to us on the phone for the past few months. First, though, we had to fress at the hotel's breakfast buffet bar. It's important, I thought, when travelling, to consume as much eggs, sausage and bacon as possible. Why that should be, I don't really know. However, it seems that I depart from my health-oriented diet as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Very disciplined ... I'm not!

The dining room at Atwood Lake Resort. Lee and Lex were not fully awake yet.
After breakfast, we piled into the car and travelled the few minutes to Duba's lake house. As we approached, we quickly understood why she had been so excited. Her house, a dark brown ranch, was nestled under trees. Behind it, the lake and her backyard which sloped gently down to the water and her dock. The house came with a pontoon boat that we used several times to gently cruise the waters of Atwood Lake.

The house is nestled among trees and has a see-thru view of the fabulous lake.

Duba and Lee - time to spend some time together.
Duba had already put her stamp on her new abode. She furnished the house in her inimitable fashion and though it's a work in progess, it's already cozy and exudes a rustic, country charm. We felt very much at home. Sitting on the deck with a view of Atwood Lake was delightful and we were pleasantly surprised at the defecit of mosquitoes and other flying pests.
Kris and his girlfiend, Miriam, had come to Ohio from Philadelphia a few days before. But my sister's husband, Buddy, had arrived just before us and brought his sister, Barbara ("Barb") with him. That was a nice surprise. We met her in 1995 when Duba visited us for Thanksgiving in Brooklyn and hadn't seen her since. Also on board were Duba and Bud's Brussels Griffons (try saying that ten times fast), Oscar and Cosmo.

Oscar and Cosmo. And my foot.

Alexis and Oscar - same expression.

Duba had come up with some ideas for seeing the area. Knowing (and appreciating) Stacey's love of antique stores she suggested a trip to a huge antique mall in nearby New Philadelphia. We piled into two cars and drove to the shop. It was enormous and couldn't be covered in a single visit. Despite that, Stacey was able to acquire some more items for our already-filled-to-the-brim brownstone apartment. How does she do that, I wondered.

After browsing for an hour or so, we noticed that time slips through one's fingers when on vacation. We were dining at the hotel tonight - all of us - and we had to get back to refresh and get dressed for dinner. It was a lovely first day in Ohio and it was swell (as my mom used to say) having the Weinstein family back together again - the first time in a long time.

Dinner was nice...Buddy and Stacey.
